The Physician
Dr. David B. Phillips, MD · PhD, is a Harvard-trained physician and an internationally recognized expert in the electrophysiology of nerve transmission. For more than thirty years he treated patients with chronic intractable pain and peripheral neuropathy — and taught physicians around the world to do the same. He serves on the faculty of the American College of Physical Medicine, is president of the American College of Academic Medicine, and continues to teach board certification programs in neuropathy, chronic pain, and opioid addiction and withdrawal.
Now retired from clinical practice, Dr. Phillips remains active in research, teaching, and consulting.
Inventions Born from Real Problems
Dr. Phillips holds 47 patents, and nearly every one began the same way: someone he loved needed something that didn’t exist. The infrared ear thermometer — which earned him Inventor of the Year and became the worldwide standard for taking core temperature — started with four children and no easy way to check a fever. The ReBuilder, his system for calming chronic nerve pain, was built for his father, so he could walk without pain and get back to his beloved bowling. The GST breast cancer detection system began when cancer touched his own family. Veinplicity, now marketed in Europe, makes blood draws easier for anyone with difficult veins — grandchildren included.
“I never invented anything for money,” he says. “I invented it because it seemed obvious that it should exist.”
Teaching the Next Generation
Dr. Phillips has taught thousands of licensed practitioners — MDs, DOs, chiropractors, naturopaths, and physical therapists — through certification programs known for being engaging, clear, and immediately usable. His teaching now extends beyond the clinic: through books, lectures, and educational media, he shares a lifetime of medical insight with anyone who wants to live better.
